Section A: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) [1 × 5 = 5]

1. The additive inverse of -7 is:

Answer: (a) 7

2. Which of the following is a rational number?

Answer: (d) All of these

3. The value of (3³ × 3²) is:

Answer: (b) 3⁵

4. Which shape has exactly one line of symmetry?

Answer: (c) Isosceles triangle

5. The perimeter of a rectangle is given by:

Answer: (a) 2(l + b)

Section B: Short Answer Questions (SA) [20 Marks]

(2 Marks Each) [5 × 2 = 10]

6. Simplify: (-12) + 9 – (-6) + (-3).

Answer: (-12) + 9 + 6 - 3 = 0

7. Express 5.25 as a fraction in simplest form.

Answer: 5.25 = 525/100 = 21/4

8. Find the value of 2⁴ × 2³ ÷ 2².

Answer: (2⁴ × 2³) ÷ 2² = 2⁷ ÷ 2² = 2⁵ = 32

9. Write the formula for the area of a triangle and calculate the area of a triangle with base 10 cm and height 8 cm.

Answer: Area = (1/2) × base × height = (1/2) × 10 × 8 = 40 cm²

10. Find the perimeter of a square whose side is 9 cm.

Answer: Perimeter = 4 × side = 4 × 9 = 36 cm

11. Find the value of (7/8 + 3/8) - 1/4.

Answer: (7/8 + 3/8) - 1/4 = 10/8 - 2/8 = 8/8 = 1

12. Find the area of a rectangle with length 15 cm and width 10 cm.

Answer: Area = length × width = 15 × 10 = 150 cm²

(4 Marks) [1 × 4 = 4]

13. Expand and simplify: (x + 3)(x - 2).

Answer: x² - 2x + 3x - 6 = x² + x - 6

Section C: Long Answer Questions (LA) [25 Marks]

(5 Marks Each) [5 × 5 = 25]

14. Find the value of: (3/5 + 7/10) ÷ (2/3 - 1/6).

Answer: (6/10 + 7/10) ÷ (4/6 - 1/6) = (13/10) ÷ (3/6) = (13/10) × (6/3) = 13 × 6 / 10 × 3 = 78/30 = 13/5

15. The length of a rectangular field is 60 m, and its breadth is 40 m. Find:

(i) Perimeter = 2(l + b) = 2(60 + 40) = 2 × 100 = 200 m
(ii) Area = length × breadth = 60 × 40 = 2400 m²

16. A cube has a side of 7 cm. Find:

(i) Total Surface Area = 6 × side² = 6 × 7² = 6 × 49 = 294 cm²
(ii) Volume = side³ = 7³ = 343 cm³

17. Find the HCF and LCM of 18 and 24 using the prime factorization method.

18 = 2 × 3 × 3, 24 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 3
HCF = 2 × 3 = 6, LCM = 2 × 2 × 2 × 3 × 3 = 72

18. Construct a line of symmetry for the following figures:

(i) Isosceles Triangle: A vertical line passing through its vertex divides it into two equal halves.
(ii) Square: Four lines of symmetry—two diagonals and two bisectors through the midpoints of opposite sides.
